Lawless Mackinac

Lawless Mackinac fills in the gaps in the history of the Michilimackinac region, detailing life in the area from 1648 to 1715.  Up until now, the history of the time period just prior to the building of Fort Michilimackinac in Mackinaw City existed primarily in fragments.  This book weaves the pieces together, using many historic quotes from the time period, presenting a whole picture of what life was like for the Native American inhabitants and their new French neighbors.  It discusses the building of Ford Buade, the first Fort Michilimackinac, and the construction of Jesuit missions in the area.  It discusses everyday life at Michilimackinac  including housing, travel, food supplies, slavery, marriage, alcohol, crime and punishment, nakedness, religion, death and the fur trade.  It details the successes and devastations of war with the Iroquois and the first attempted attack on Michilimackinac by the English.
